Nester’s Sanitation No Longer Accepts Glass—But Many Items Still Qualify for Recycling
Glass is no longer recyclable, and that change matters. Nester’s Sanitation in Hamburg, Pennsylvania removed glass from its accepted materials list because it breaks easily, damages sorting equipment, and contaminates other recyclables. To avoid disrupting the system, skip the glass and focus on what you can recycle—starting with the list below.
Magazines & Newspapers
Collect your printed paper like magazines and newspapers, tie bundles, and place them in a clear plastic bag or box. Keep them dry and neatly bundled for easy processing.
Corrugated Cardboard
Flatten clean corrugated cardboard—no wax-coated cartons or pizza boxes. Cardboard takes up less space and remains one of the highest-value recyclables accepted at no extra fee.
Tin & Aluminum Cans
Rinse out all food debris from steel and aluminum cans. Labels can stay on. Combine cans, plastic bottles, and metal in the same bag or bin for single-stream sorting.
Plastic Bottles
Recycle clean plastic bottles numbers 1 through 5, lids removed—shampoo, soda, juice, and water containers all qualify. All containers must be free of any food residue and absolutely no liquid remaining (not even water).
Nester’s provides single-stream curbside recycling once a month to most of our customers. Call the office to confirm availability. Use clear plastic bags to prepare your materials. Absolutely no food or liquid left in containers. Tie newspapers. Flatten cardboard. Follow these steps and you’ll help ensure every valuable item makes it to the proper processing facility—with no broken glass to derail the system. Stay informed—visit Nester’s Recycling page for more guidelines.
